System encompasses several accessibility actions
Manaus (AM) – The “Beach for All” Bill, authored by councilor Raiff Matos (DC), advances in the Manaus City Council (CMM). The proposal aims to create an accessibility system at Praia da Ponta Negra, allowing people with mobility difficulties to bathe in the river and have easier access to the beach.
According to the project, the system encompasses several actions, including the installation of treadmills to facilitate the passage of wheelchairs, provision of amphibious chairs that allow movement on the sand and float in the water, parking spaces reserved for the disabled, as well as tents for sun and support tents.
The councilor highlights that Praia da Ponta Negra is an important tourist spot in Manaus, with its shoreline full of various attractions and leisure options. With the project, the beach can become more accessible, allowing people with disabilities to enjoy this area in its entirety.
“It is an important step to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their limitations, can enjoy the beauty of our city. Inclusion is fundamental to building a more fair and equal society”,
declared.
The PL is still in progress and awaits analysis by the 8th Transport, Urban Mobility and Accessibility Commission before being sanctioned by Mayor David Almeida.
Accessibility Brazil
This measure follows examples from other regions of the country. In Rio de Janeiro, a 2019 law guarantees mats to facilitate the movement of wheelchairs on the state’s beaches. Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, started the “Accessible Beach Project” in 2016, offering people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy safe sea bathing using amphibious chairs.
