Quantity of water to be distributed will be calculated according to public estimates and the nature of the event
Manaus (AM) – The mandatory distribution of drinking water at shows and major events in Amazonas, proposed by state deputy Rozenha (PMB), came about after the incident that killed Ana Clara Benevides, a fan of singer Taylor Swift, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, on November 17, 2023 .
According to the Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro, Ana Benevides’ death was caused by a cardiorespiratory arrest. The suspicion is that the death was caused by the strong heat wave that hit the city. When she started to feel sick, she was in the middle of a large public, approximately 60 thousand people, without access to any type of hydration.
According to Bill No. 1119/2023, as of the publication of the law, event promoters in Amazonas are obliged to provide mineral and drinking water to the public. Distribution must be free, without charging any additional fees or amounts. The amount of water to be distributed will be calculated according to public estimates and the nature of the event.
This Thursday (23.11), deputy Rozenha recalled that Amazonas is a paradise for major cultural events. “Amazonians like to attend these events. And here, you pay a very expensive ticket to see a singer or a band and not even water is available.”, he laments.
The rule is valid for private artistic and musical events and any other large shows. The project also provides for authorization for the public to bring bottles of water for their own consumption. The deputy recalls that private events that generate profit often take place in public places, such as the Sambadrome.
“Entrepreneurs need to make a profit and make cold drinking water available to their customers. What you cannot do is accumulate thousands of people inside places like Arena da Amazônia, under the heat of the Amazon, the heat of a gigantic equatorial climate. These (event) companies make a lot of money from this,”
said Rozenha.
Failure to comply with the law may result in fines and suspension of authorization for future events.
