After Lula’s commitment, Davi and Clécio discuss a solution with the minister to stop the increase in electricity bills in Amapá – News of Brazil

One day after meeting with the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvathe senator David Alcolumbre and the governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, align a solution with the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, to stop the increase in electricity tariffs for people from Amapá.

The meeting took place this Friday (24) at the Alcolumbre and detailed the next steps in search of a definitive solution to stop the increase in energy tariffs.

After political leaders from Amapá met with the President Lula To ask the federal government for support to prevent the possibility of an adjustment of almost 45% in Amapá’s energy bills, Lula guaranteed that Amapá will not suffer such an abusive increase in energy bills.

At this Friday’s meeting, the minister Alexandre Silveira assured the senator and the governor that, together with his technical team, and obeying the President’s determination, a real and definitive solution will be provided to stop the increase in electricity tariffs in Amapá: “We spent the entire morning working with President Lula, looking for solutions for the electricity sector, especially on the tariff issue in Amapá, which is currently experiencing great anguish in relation to this. The federal bench, led by President Davi, Governor Clécio and Minister Waldez, took the problem to the President of the Republic, who ordered me to find a solution so that we could avoid this increase in the tariff that would hit Amapá’s economy and also the humbler people. So, I reaffirm here that this solution will be given”emphasized Silveira.

In September, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved a tariff adjustment of 44.41% for Amapá as of December 13, making the state have the highest energy bill in the country. “We are a small state, with very high social inequality to have the most expensive electricity tariff in the country. It makes no sense”highlighted Alcolumbre.

According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Amapá is the second least populous state in Brazil, with 733.5 thousand inhabitants. In first place is Roraima, with 636 thousand residents and in third place is Acre, with 830 thousand inhabitants.

Around 211 thousand consumer units are served in the 16 municipalities of Amapá. Of this total units, 210 thousand are for residential consumers. The proposed adjustment for high voltage units is 46.70%; medium, 44.41%; low voltage, 43.71%. The agency’s explanation is that the review would be to compensate costs with sectoral and distribution charges, in addition to investments made since 2017 due to low demographic density and dispersed consumer units.

For the governor of Amapá, the meeting brought relief to the population. “I can only thank you, on behalf of the people of Amapá, I leave here confident that both the minister and President Lula will provide an outcome that meets what we need”, he pointed out. Clecio.

Senator Davi emphasized the unity of Amapá’s political leaders in the search for a solution. “The State Legislative Assembly, the federal bench, the three senators of the Republic and Minister Waldez Góes are united in this cause. All my gratitude and appreciation for your commitment, especially all my gratitude on behalf of the most needy families in our state who could never afford an increase of this proportion. I also make a point of thanking President Lula for his sensitivity and understanding of the needs of the most vulnerable families in Amapá who, without a doubt, would be the most affected by this increase in electricity tariffs”.
