Project in the Chamber provides structure for Embratur to function, says Freixo – 03/31/2024 – Panel

The project that changes the legal regime of Embratur (Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Tourism), to allow it to incorporate resources from budget allocations from the Ministry of Tourism as revenue, provides the structure for the body to function, says its president, Marcelo Freixo.

The former federal deputy spent the last few days talking to the rapporteur, Leur Lomanto Júnior (União-BA), to negotiate the text. He also met with party leaders to ensure approval of the project, authored by the government leader in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE).

“The text is fundamental because, in fact, it fixes a problem. We inherited an Embratur without a budget and without a source of budget. An incomplete irresponsibility”, he says.

According to him, Guimarães’ text would help structure the agency to pay payroll and make basic investments. The proposal also allows cities that have international tourism to hire Embratur to promote themselves as a destination without bidding.

“Since Embratur is a non-profit public company, for the municipal or state public manager it is the best thing in the world, because there are no problems of accountability when it comes to hiring the agency, which has expertise in the area.”

Approval of the project would allow the sending of R$200 million from the Budget via the Ministry of Tourism to Embratur, adds Freixo.
