Manaus (AM) – State deputies approved this Wednesday (23), the project that obliges water and energy concessionaires to accept pix as a form of payment at the time of service cuts.
The proposal, authored by state deputy Rozenha (PMB), amends State Law No. 5,931 of 06/21/2022, which obliges concessionaires to accept only debit or credit cards on the occasion of service interruptions.
With the approval of PL 415/2023, the consumer will be able to use the most used instant payment system in Brazil, according to a survey carried out by the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), based on figures from the Central Bank. Today, transactions made via pix surpassed debit and credit card operations.
According to the project, the main intention is not to interfere with the provision of services, but to protect consumers’ access to this right provided for by law. The norm is safeguarded in the Consumer Protection Code at the time the text establishes that essential services must be provided on an ongoing basis. In this way, facilitating the discharge of debts is a way to ensure the continuity of service provision.
Approved projects
Among Deputy Rozenha’s projects approved in the vote this Wednesday (23.08) are also PL Nº 280/2023 which provides for access for people with Lupus to medication, blockers, filters and sunscreens, in addition to PL Nº 422/2023 which prohibits the use of public resources by sports entities convicted of match-fixing.
The projects await Governor Wilson Lima’s sanction.
