Activities carried out by FAS contributed to the 84% drop in the rate of children and adolescents without official documentation in riverside communities

Manaus (AM) – Activities carried out by Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS) contributed to the 84% drop in the rate of children and adolescents without official documentation in riverside communities and peripheral neighborhoods of 9 municipalities in the interior of Amazonas between 2019 and 2022. completed 15 years of activity contributing to environmental conservation and improving the quality of life of forest peoples.

The children and adolescents who participate in the activities receive socio-assistance monitoring, carried out through home visits, with the aim of identifying the main existing vulnerability indicators.

Based on the observed findings and needs, FAS activates, in the municipalities, the bodies/equipment responsible for the detected demand. With these partnerships, proposals for solutions that can ease the difficulties among Amazonian youth are directed.

For the regularization of official documentation, the organization has the support of the Aderson Conceição de Melo Identification Institute and the city halls of each municipality. In this way, it is possible to promote citizenship actions, which include services such as the withdrawal of first or second copies of documents.

The activities are carried out through the Program for the Comprehensive Development of Children and Adolescents from the Riverside of the Amazon (Dicara) which serves the public from 0 to 17 years old in riverside communities and peripheral neighborhoods of 9 municipalities in the interior of Amazonas. Several actions are carried out in the areas of Education and Citizenship with the aim of protecting and guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents, in addition to empowering this public and developing existing skills and potential.

Public reception is positive, as reported by the manager of the Education for Sustainability Program at FAS, Fabiana Cunha.

“In the riverside communities, the activities are well received by the population, with young people actively participating and changing everyone’s reality. FAS projects also guarantee opportunities for participants to become more integrated with their community, generating more value to the place where they live”,
