In a period of less than three months this year, Brazil has already registered 1.68 million probable cases of dengue, more than the total for 2023 (1.66 million). The data was released by the Ministry of Health in the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel.

The number of deaths observed this year (513) still does not exceed that recorded in the 12 months of the previous year (1,094). However, there are still 903 deaths under investigation, which could increase dengue lethality statistics in this two and a half month period of 2024.

As for probable cases, comparing the same period of 2024 and 2023 (first two and a half months of the year), there are five times more cases this year than in the previous year.

The majority of probable cases this year affect women (55.5%).

The federation units with the highest incidence rates are the Federal District (5,044 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants), Minas Gerais (2,809 per 100 thousand) and Espírito Santo (1,730 per 100 thousand). The lowest rates are in the states of Maranhão (44 per 100 thousand), Pernambuco (85 per 100 thousand) and Piauí (87 per 100 thousand).
