Prisoner who benefited from the “skip” confesses and is nominated for the death of a police officer

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais indicted this Monday (15) the man identified as the author of the shots that resulted in the death of Sergeant Roger Dias, aged 29, in Belo Horizonte. The suspect was indicted for quadruple homicide, including base motives, concealment, and the fact that the victims were security agents.

Sergeant Roger Dias was shot in the head during the chase, and brain death was confirmed on the 7th. The gunman was on the run after benefiting from a “Christmas getaway” from prison, according to the Military Police.

In addition to homicide, the suspect will face charges of disobedience, resistance and illegal possession of a firearm. With a criminal history that includes theft, possession and trafficking of drugs, theft, receiving, threats, criminal acts and ideological falsehood, the person under investigation confessed to the crime to the police, stating that he had fired shots at the soldier during a chase.

“He confirmed that he was in fact in the vehicle and that he did not want to be arrested. Then, to the investigators, he confessed to having fired a firearm at the soldier,” said delegate Ariadne Coelho.

Another suspect, believed to be the driver of the getaway vehicle, was also charged. The charges include attempted aggravated murder, disobedience, resistance, illegal possession of a firearm, drug trafficking and attempted murder of a motorcyclist who was hit by the car during the action.

The recurrence of crimes committed by inmates benefiting from the “exit” brought back the discussion to end the measure. It is estimated that around 2,700 inmates did not return to prison units after the end of the period in 17 states and the Federal District, according to information from public security departments.

There is still no nationwide survey by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.

The number of prisoners who did not return corresponds to 4.8% of the total of 56.9 thousand released. Eight states, including Acre, Alagoas and Amazonas, stated that they had not granted the benefit, while Bahia did not respond. Pará indicated that the party still occurs in some regions in the interior.

The numbers show that Rio de Janeiro led in the percentage of inmates who did not return (14%), followed by Pará (12%) and Ceará (9%). In São Paulo, which had the largest number of beneficiaries (34,547), 4.5% did not return.
