Brasilia DF) – The president of Jair Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto, said this Monday (5), that Senator Sérgio Moro (União Brasil-PR) and federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) “exceeded the limits of the law ” and “they will pay dearly”. The statements were made during the inauguration of the Municipal Directory of the acronym in the city of São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, 440 kilometers from the capital of São Paulo.

Did they have a reason to attack Lula? They have to do their part. But they go beyond the limits of the law. They overtook. They will pay dearly”, said Valdemar. Then he softened his tone. “I don’t want that to happen to them (Moro and Dallagnol). I have nothing against them. But they will pay dearly.”

The senator and the deputy were approached by the report, but preferred not to comment on the statements.

The press conference in which Valdemar participated, alongside senator Marcos Pontes (PL-SP) and federal deputy Luiz Carlos Motta (PL-SP), turned into an analysis of the political conjuncture made by the chief, passing from the history of the monthly allowance to the Bolsonaro’s plans for the 2026 elections. He praised the performance of Michelle Bolsonaro, who assumed the presidency of PL Mulher, and said that she and the former president “want the big cities” and “will enter the campaign for real”.

Valdemar has passed through several cities and seeks to rebuild its political capital. He was convicted and imprisoned in the monthly allowance, the corruption scandal of Lula’s first government. Since the end of 2021, when Bolsonaro joined the PL, the two have joined forces and the president of the acronym has gained strength again. On Saturday, the 3rd, he attended a tribute that the City Council of Mogi das Cruzes (Greater São Paulo) made to his father, Waldemar Costa Filho. The crowded event turned into a “kiss-hand” in search of support from the PL.

Minutes later, at the press conference, Valdemar returned to speak about the lavajatistas in Curitiba, stressing that he will favor the interests of his initials to the detriment of both. “I am in a difficult position, because Dallagnol and Sergio Moro have the support of Bolsonaristas. And you don’t know the worst: Dallagnol’s substitute is from the PL. They did not revoke his mandate. They canceled the registration.” The succession of the former prosecutor will still be decided by the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná and is between Pastor Itamar Paim (PL-PR) and Luiz Carlos Hauly (Podemos-PR).

The electoral judicial investigation action that the PL moves against Sérgio Moro also entered the agenda. Valdemar reiterated that he will not give up the process. “I have nothing against Moro, but I have to fulfill my obligation as president. Because the runner-up in Paraná is from the PL, and lost the election in the shell. He was a federal deputy of ours, supported by Ratinho and Bolsonaro. And dear. Then people come up to me and say ‘Valdemar, aren’t you going to do anything?’”

The deputy he referred to is Paulo Martins (PL-PR), who had 29.12% of the votes for senator in the State, against 33.82% for Moro. Behind the scenes, there is a rumor that Valdemar resents the former federal judge, who was Rosa Weber’s assistant in the monthly allowance cases. “Then they brought me a lot of things, a lot of documents. Because Moro had started campaigning for president before. And you cannot spend money before the convention”, justified the president of the PL.

Marcos Pontes, senator of the Republic, was presented as Valdemar’s preferred name for the mayoralty of São Paulo in 2024. “He could be a strong candidate.” The two were also together at the event at the Municipality of Mogi das Cruzes, at the weekend.

However, the former president’s latest movements have shown that his chosen one is Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the current mayor of the city. The two met twice this month, including a closed-door lunch last Friday, the 3rd, on the subject of elections.

Regardless of the candidate for which the acronym will lean, for now Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) will leave the race. He presented himself as Jair Bolsonaro’s chosen one and then found himself rifled within the acronym itself.
