The performance of the president of the January 8 CPI, deputy Arthur Maia (União-BA), has been criticized by deputies and senators from the base of the government, especially with regard to the organization of the work of the mixed parliamentary commission of inquiry.
Parliamentarians complain that there is no previously determined calendar with the hearings, which would give predictability to the work and improve the preparation of parliamentarians.
Another point that has bothered members of the governing base is what they see as the president’s complacency with Bolsonarists. On Tuesday (11), for example, Maia was seen having lunch with deputy Abilio Brunini (PL-MT) shortly after the parliamentarian was accused of making a transphobic speech against deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP).
On the same day, there was a vote on the opposition’s requests, including one from Deputy Delegado Ramagem (PL-RJ), who requests information from the Ministry of Human Rights about children, adolescents, elderly people and people with disabilities detained in the attack on the headquarters of the Three Powers.
Another request, that of deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), wants the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) to deliver the entirety of a petition that investigates the work of the Federal Police in the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, a former assistant orders from former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). From the document, Bolsonaro’s son 03 wants to clarify “if there really was any plausible justification for the preventive detention” of Mauro Cid.
Among the requests was one to summon Reuters photographer Adriano Machado. However, Maia withdrew the request, which was not part of the agreement reached between the government and the opposition. According to the Bolsonarist narrative, there were journalists at the Planalto Palace before the vandalism began.
