President of Petrobras talks about expectations to drill a well in Amapá in early 2024 – News of Brazil

The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, said, this Wednesday (11), that the company has the potential to be a reference in the generation of wind energy from plants in the ocean. “Offshore company [exploração no mar] we will continue to be, only now from the winds”he stated, referring to the company’s already known capacity to explore oil in the high seas.
The statement was made during the Pathways to Fair Energy Transition seminar in Brazil, organized by Petrobras and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), in Rio de Janeiro.
Equatorial Margin
Jean Paul Prates once again defended the drilling of oil wells in the Equatorial Margin – a maritime area that extends more than 2.2 kilometers from the coast, from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte – considered promising as the pre-salt .
Ibama granted a license for exploration in the Potiguar Basin, which covers the coast of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. But the oil company is seeking authorization to drill wells as far as Amapá, including the Foz do Amazonas Basin.
“I want to make it very clear that there is absolutely no intergovernmental conflict on this matter,” he said when referring to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, and the president of Ibama, Rodrigo Agostinho. “We respect the moment and the need to make changes and new requirements to the licensing process.”
Prates stated that a period of six months or less in the licensing process makes little difference. He said he believes that the Pre-Operational Assessment (APO) that resulted in the approval of the license for the Potiguar Basin could facilitate the release, by Ibama, of exploration in the other basins of the Equatorial Margin. APO is the simulation of an emergency procedure against environmental disaster, which included vessels, drones, helicopters and contingency teams.
“The license has been given. We will carry out the operation very successfully. The expectation is that in the first half of next year or, at the latest, throughout 2024, we will head towards Amapá to drill the Equatorial margin”.
Petrobras intends to drill 16 wells along the entire margin. “Petrobras is the best and most qualified oil operator in the world to carry out this operation and, if it doesn’t happen now, it won’t happen again. If it doesn’t happen with Petrobras, no one else will,” highlighted.
