President of Faesp wants to vote for full management discharge – 05/07/2023 – Panel

President of Faesp (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo) since 1975, Fábio Meirelles, 94, called an assembly to try to vote this Monday (8) on the “broad, full, shallow, general and irreversible” discharge of administration until today, “nothing can complain of the managers regarding the past, nature or time and for whatever reason”.
Voting at the assembly will be secret and, if the minimum number of representative delegates are not present at 9:15 am, it will be held regardless of the number of participants from 9:30 am.
Representative of rural entrepreneurs in the State, Faesp has historically been supported by mandatory union dues. With the end of the obligation in recent years, resources of this type have fallen, but still accumulated more than R$ 3 million in 2021. In 2016, the transfer reached R$ 16 million.
Faesp represents rural entrepreneurs, medium and large landowners in São Paulo, bringing together 237 rural unions.
Opponents of Meirelles in the entity point to the measure as an abusive maneuver and without legal validity in their attempt to give a safe conduct to almost half a century of administration. One of the main opponents of the president of Faesp is Paulo Junqueira, a rural producer who is close to Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and was one of those responsible for his participation in this year’s Agrishow.
In a note, Faesp states that the assembly was called to vote on the accountability for 2022 and that “perhaps the objectivity of the topic has raised some questions”.
“We emphasize that all bills from previous years have already been approved. Therefore, there is nothing abusive when the only intention is to forward the agenda to optimize the time of delegates from affiliated rural unions”, he completes.
A series of reports from Sheet showed signs of irregularities in Meirelles’ management at the head of Faesp, favoring his children. The entity hired, for example, a company belonging to the president’s daughter to carry out the administrative collection of businessmen and rural landowners who were not spontaneously paying the union contribution. Tirso Meirelles, also a son, is vice-president of Faesp and also of Sebrae-SP.
