Prerogatives wants debate with Deltan on Lava Jato – 05/08/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The Prerogativas group, which is composed of lawyers, jurists and public defenders, invited federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) to a debate on Lava Jato. The initiative came from the coordinator of the legal group, Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, after he and the congressman had a heated discussion last week about the actions of the operation.

Videos of the confrontation went viral on social media. The controversy occurred during a public hearing at the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), in the Chamber of Deputies, on the subject of parliamentary immunity.

“After the session I reiterated the invitation to hold the debate, but I still didn’t get a response. Deputy Deltan can choose the mediator and the place”, says Marco Aurélio.

To the column, Deltan said, through his advisory, that he accepted the invitation at the time. The lawyer, however, refuted the information. “He didn’t accept it. He said that first he needed to talk to me personally and that he would check”, stated the Prerogatives coordinator.

For Marco Aurélio, debating the matter is important so that the “excesses of Lava Jato are not forgotten and to prevent them from happening again”. “Lavajatistas need to be confronted. In addition to the financial losses, they have compromised the credibility of our justice system”, he says.

At the event in the Chamber, the lawyer said that President Lula (PT) was a victim of “the perverse instrumentalization of the justice system at the service of political and electoral interests.”

Former head of the Lava Jato task force at the Federal Public Ministry, Deltan asked for the floor and said that the operation always followed the law. The deputy also stated that Lava Jato was attacked “innumerable times by Prerogativas, who were later there in the election, supporting Lula, turning a blind eye to the corruption that was practiced.”

In a video published on his social networks with an excerpt from the discussion in the Chamber, Deltan said that he pointed out the “hypocrisy of occasional guarantors who only defend the rights of their friends”.
