With declared support from the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and the president of the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the House, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), lawyer Cristiano Zanin should be nominated for Federal Supreme Court (STF) confirmed later this month.

Pacheco and Alcolumbre committed themselves to approving his name in plenary still in June, already counting on a favorable opinion on the Saturday at the CCJ.

Despite protests from the opposition against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) choice of a friend and personal lawyer to fill the vacancy of STF minister due to Ricardo Lewandowski’s retirement, the tendency is for the process to be quick and favorable to the nominee .

Before being questioned, Zanin will visit the offices of the 81 senators in the coming days, having already met with some linked to the government and with ministers of the STF.

“To appoint a personal lawyer to the STF is to belittle the Republic. The president is not concerned with the negative repercussions, but rather, it seems, with returning the favor of the non-condemnation after unanimous judgment in three instances”, said senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE).
