On January 8, 2023, supporters of the former president of the republic defeated in the dispute for re-election, Jair Bolsonaro, wearing a football team shirt and Brazilian flags, they invaded the headquarters of the three powers.

The invasion promoted acts of vandalism. Among the damages, destruction of national assets and historical artifacts, such as a clock given by the court of King Louis XIV, of France.

A similar act was carried out in the United States, in 2021, when supporters of former American president Donald Trump, also defeated in the election, invaded the legislative center of the American state, the Capitol.

The Brazilian invasion, which completed one year this Monday, 8th, scores as the “most sensitive moment of Brazilian democracy”according to the historian Daniel Chaves that, during his speech on the program ‘LuizMeloInterview’ (Diário FM 90.9)took the opportunity to remember other moments of national democratism, such as the coup that gave rise to the Republic, the Vargas dictatorship and impeachments. “Democracy in Brazil has already suffered a lot”, said Daniel.

For the historian, the act of January 8, 2023 was “an invasion and attempt at practical occupation”. Regarding the role of the Armed Forces, Daniel highlighted that there was no full support from the military, but that some members of the Brazilian Army participated. “People inside the barracks”he highlighted.

According to Daniel, what happened was a “political action”, since there is evidence of planning and possibility of financing. “Politics made in a primitive way. Brazil doesn’t need this. Whoever wants Brazil to succeed doesn’t want chaos”, concluded the historian.
