The Mato Grosso Civil Police (PCMT) reported this Monday (20) that it is investigating the occurrence of a politically motivated homicide in the district of Selma, 60 km from Jaciara (MT). The crime took place on Sunday (19). A 36-year-old man, supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), died after gunshots fired by a supporter of President Luiz Inácio Lula. The shooter is on the run. In audio sent to People’s Gazettethe chief of Jaciara (MT), José Ramon Leite, pointed out that the motivation for the crime was “political divergence”.
The police said that “the suspects were at the bar drinking alcohol when they clashed over opposing political opinions”.
“Unfortunately, we are witnessing the commission of a barbaric crime, a trivial homicide, since its motivation was political differences. Warmly, each one defended their political position, one defended the previous president and the suspect defended the current president”, said the delegate.
After hearing several witnesses about the crime, Leite mentioned that, when the discussion became more aggressive, “the suspect invited the victim to go outside, where two shots were heard and then the suspect fled in his vehicle, which was found 10km away from the crime scene”.
Investigations into the case continue to be carried out by the PCMT and the man identified as the author of the shots, whose name was not informed by the police, remains at large. He is approximately 60 years old.
Another politically motivated crime
This is the second crime in MT caused by political motivation in recent months. Another murder took place in September last year, when a Lula supporter was murdered after an argument with a Bolsonaro voter.
The previous crime was registered in Confresa, a city in the interior of Mato Grosso, and involved two co-workers. They were farm workers.
