The Civil Police of Mato Grosso do Sul is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and dismemberment of soccer player Hugo Vinícius Skulny Pedrosa, 19. Parts of the young man’s body were found in the Iguatemi river, in Sete Quedas (468 km from Campo Grande), six days after the family informed about the disappearance. Preliminary recognition was possible because of a tattoo on the right forearm.

In a note, the Civil Police reported that a suspect was arrested, but it has not yet been disclosed what his participation would be. The investigation continues in search of others involved in the crime.

According to information from the Civil Police, the missing person report was registered on Monday (26). The player’s cousin, Andressa Skulny said that the boy had left on Saturday night to go to a party in Pindoty Porá, a Paraguayan town in the border region, about 7 km from Sete Quedas.

The cousin says that the last contact was with her grandmother, Venilda Gonçalves Skulny, in the early hours of Sunday. Around 3 am, the elderly woman called and asked him to come home, as she was worried. The boy replied that he “was fine” and would soon leave. Half an hour later, another call and the same answer. The family has not heard from the player since then.

In a note, the Civil Police reported that preliminary surveys on Monday already indicated that it could be a homicide crime. Support was requested from Defron (Delegation for the Repression of Border Crimes).

Without giving details, the police said that a witness collaborated so that parts of the body were found in the Iguatemi river, close to a farm.

Five divers from the Amambai Fire Department were called in, and parts of the corpse were found. One of them was the right forearm, tattooed with a tribute to the player’s father, who died in a car accident in September 2021.

This Monday (3), two more divers from the Fire Department were sent to the Iguatemi River to help in the search for the rest of the player’s body. Yesterday, one of the legs and part of the young man’s head were found. The search continues on Tuesday. The Civil Police reported that seizures of some objects were made that will be examined.

Delegate of Sete Quedas, Lucelia Constantino confirmed the preliminary identification by the tattoo, but asked the player’s brother to go to Amambai to collect DNA samples for official identification of the body.

Andressa Skulny said that the family was surprised by the disappearance from the beginning. The player was not in the habit of sleeping outside or taking time without notifying his grandmother. That day, even arriving late, he would not fail to return home, since he had a game the next day. “He would never miss even more than he would be captain,” he said.

player dream

Since he was little, the boy had the dream of becoming a professional football player, as a striker, like his idol, Neymar. Andressa says that, in 2021, at the age of 17, Hugo moved to Anastácio, 527 kilometers from Sete Quedas, to play for Seduc-MS, the main youth team in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The president of Seduc-MS, Wilson de Araújo Santana, says that Hugo participated in three competitions for the team in the sub-17 category and champion in the Copa Itu de Futebol Menores, in São Paulo.

On September 20, 2021, the player’s father died in a car accident, and the player returned home for ten days. When he returned, Wilson said the teen didn’t seem to have the same focus, rattled by the loss.

The family decided it was time for him to return home, where he had lived since childhood with his grandmother and brother. Hugo went on to play for Projetinho at Intervilas, a championship in the city’s neighborhoods, and he was still doing tests, in pursuit of his dream of being a renowned striker. Hugo Skulny was in the 1st year of the Physical Education distance course.

During the days of uncertainty, the family posted several requests for help in finding the player. One of them was shared by singer Ana Castela, born in Amambai and raised in Sete Quedas.

Andressa said that she received information that, in the early hours of the disappearance, her cousin asked a friend for a ride to go to an ex-girlfriend’s house.

Andressa says that the 72-year-old grandmother found out that the boy was killed, but the family spared her the details. It is not yet known when the remains will be released for burial, but she says that the intention is to make a procession to the cemetery asking for justice.
