Podcast: the PF’s action against Carlos in the Abin case – Folha – 01/30/2024 – Podcasts

Councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (Republicanos-RJ) became this Monday (29) another member of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) environment to be the target of a Federal Police investigation targeting the so-called “parallel Abin” — an illegal espionage scheme operated within the Brazilian Intelligence Agency.

The PF carried out search and seizure warrants against Carlos and his advisors, targeting what was defined as the political core of the scheme. According to the request that supported the action, authorized by STF minister Alexandre de Moraes, this nucleus would use the then director of Abin, Alexandre Ramagem, to obtain confidential information. Ramagem, now a federal deputy (PL-RJ), was the target of a PF operation last week.

Bolsonaro and Ramagem deny that they created a “parallel Abin” to spy on opponents. The former president said that the PF acts to embarrass him. Carlos did not comment, while Flávio and Eduardo Bolsonaro stated that Monday’s operation committed abuses and was illegal. Jair Renan’s defense calls the investigation a “work of fiction”.
