Since the election, the new government has shown distrust of the work of the Institutional Security Office (GSI). For four years, the GSI became one of the leading organs of Bolsonarism, under the command of General Augusto Heleno.
Even before taking office, the PT refused the participation of the cabinet in the security of the headquarters of the transition. Doubts in relation to the organ intensified after the attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers. For the government, the GSI should have foreseen that there was an escalation in the action of Bolsonarists, since the body has access to intelligence information.
This Tuesday’s Café da Manhã (17) explains the history of the GSI, analyzes the reasons for the government’s distrust of the body and discusses the PT’s room for maneuver to change the relationship with the military. The episode features an interview with journalist Lucas Figueiredo, author of “Nowhere: Military and Civilians in the Hiding of Dictatorship Documents” (Companhia das Letras).
