Social organizations that serve children and adolescents must require half-yearly school attendance
Manaus (AM) – PL 284/2023, authored by councilor Ivo Neto (Patriot), advanced in Manaus City Council (CMM), being approved this Wednesday (30). The project establishes criteria to combat school dropout and will now be analyzed by the 3rd Commission on Finance, Economy and Budget.
According to the project, social organizations that serve children and adolescents must request declarations of half-yearly school attendance from their clients, in order to prevent school dropout.
Amazonas faces a worrying scenario, with more than 105,000 children and adolescents out of school. The North region of Brazil had the worst school attendance rates in the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic. The study “Return to school, journey and pandemic”, conducted by the Center for Social Policies of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV Social), revealed that Roraima, Rondônia, Amazonas and Acre are among the states with the lowest rates of school attendance.
Ivo Neto points out that school dropout is a social problem in the state and that the focus of the bill is to encourage school attendance among children. He highlights the importance of institutions being connected with schools and using school attendance as an incentive to keep students engaged.
