DPE-AP and Deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia conduct a public hearing to discuss the energy situation in Amapá – News of Brazil

The Public Defender’s Office of Amapá (DPE-AP) and federal deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT) will hold on September 4th, starting at 2 pm, at the headquarters of the Amapá Bar Association (OAB-AP), the public hearing “The economic impact of the value of the electricity tariff for consumers in Amapá”. The holding of the event is a response to a request from the Association of Entrepreneurs and Traders of Amapá, which reported that many entrepreneurs are about to close their doors due to the impossibility of bearing the costs of electricity in their establishments.
According to the organizers, residents’ associations from neighborhoods across the state also requested discussion of the matter. The population’s main complaint is that families, especially those with lower purchasing power, are unable to pay energy bills due to the high values, damaging their finances and influencing consumption habits, such as investments in children’s education, health plans and even even the purchase of basic food items.
The State Public Defender’s Office receives many complaints about the consumption relationship with the company CEA Equatorial. The same complaints also reach the office of federal deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia. These are problems like:
- Power cuts performed on weekends;
- Collection of fines related to consumption in previous years;
- Mass power cuts in housing developments;
- Lack of structure for customer service in the capital and absence in the interior of the state;
- Questions about the fees and taxes charged on the invoice, which together represent most of the account value.
Representatives of associations, the OAB-AP and the Federal Public Ministry were invited to the public hearing. Deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia will make a presentation on the challenge of Amapá as an energy exporter, despite having one of the highest tariffs in Brazil, he will also talk about the bills he presented on the subject. The public defender and coordinator of the Civil Nucleus of Macapá, Márcio Peixoto, will lead a panel discussion on “The role of institutions in the face of consumer difficulties in relation to the provision of electricity services in the State of Amapá”.
the deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia considers that the hearing will be a time for the population to share their problems and also point out solutions that can be built through parliament and institutions such as the Public Defender’s Office. “It is a public hearing with effective actions. Based on the audience, we will come up with a series of resources so that we can really have a fair tariff”added the parliamentarian.
According to the public defender Marcio Peixoto, Complaints from users are frequent, whether due to discrepancies between household consumption and the amount on the bill, charges for recovering consumption and even installment plans that do not suit the consumer’s reality.
“We are going to show that we have the legal means to question all these charges and make the population aware of the role of all the organs of the Justice System and how to activate them to enforce their rights”explained the defender.
