Brasilia DF) – Federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto, presented Bill 2369/23 that proposes an increase in the penalty for the crime of domestic violence committed in the physical or virtual presence of a descendant (1st degree: son and daughter, 2nd degree: grandson and granddaughter, 3rd degree : great-grandson and great-granddaughter) or ascendant (1st degree: father and mother 2nd degree: grandfather and grandmother 3rd degree: great-grandfather and great-grandmother) of the victim.

“The increase in the penalty for violence committed in front of children is a measure that aims to protect children and discourage aggressors from committing domestic violence. It is a way of sending a clear message that domestic violence is unacceptable and must be severely punished”, explained the parliamentarian.

The PL amends item 14, in Article 129, of Decree-Law No. 2,848, of December 7, 1940 of the Penal Code, and determines, in these cases, an increase of one third in the penalty applied. With this measure, the proposal is to encourage victims to denounce violence, allowing aggressors to be held accountable for their actions.

According to the deputy, it is important that people recognize the seriousness of domestic violence and the importance of reporting any suspicion of abuse. In addition, in many cases, children are exposed to this violence, which can generate trauma over time with symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic disorder, chemical dependency, relationship problems.

“Unfortunately in our country the rates of domestic violence are very high and its effects on family life are often irreversible. Therefore, it is increasingly important to combat this type of crime with stricter and more effective penalties so that the aggressor does not commit violence again and so that women can feel safe in their homes with their families”, said Captain Alberto Neto .
