Another measure is to work on recovering self-esteem and the full development of young people

Federal deputy Saullo Vianna (União-AM) argued that, after the start of the new legislative year, the Chamber should focus on its Bill 2223/2023, which seeks to include measures to raise awareness, prevent and combat bullying and cyberbullying in educational establishments.

“It is important that Congress approved and President Lula sanctioned a project that criminalizes bullying and cyberbullying, with harsher penalties, as the practice has put the lives of our children and young people at risk. But it’s not enough to punish. We have to raise awareness and prevent crime, and there is no better way than starting with education”,

said Vianna.

According to the text of the project, the objectives to be achieved are to prevent and combat bullying and cyberbullying through the inclusion of training strategies for teachers and pedagogical teams on the topic and the implementation of discussion, prevention, guidance and problem-solving actions. .

Another measure that should be used, if the PL is approved, is to work on recovering self-esteem and the full development of young people, as well as harmonious coexistence in the school environment.

“All of these strategies that we envisage in the project also have as a priority involving the family in the process of building a culture of peace in schools. All precautions regarding personal exposure on the web must be considered and, for this, parents need to have active participation in this education and awareness process”,

revealed Saullo Vianna.

Alert for overexposure on the web

Research carried out by the non-governmental organization Plan, with 5 thousand Brazilian students aged 10 to 14, shows that 17% have already been victims of cyberbullying at least once. Of these, 13% were insulted via cell phone and the remaining 87% through texts and images sent by email or via social networking sites.

Specialists in school violence say that parents should be alert to the excessive exposure of personal data, photos and videos in virtual environments, in addition to the effects that the practice causes on young people, such as attention deficit, lack of concentration and lack of motivation to study, similar for those who are attacked and those who attack.

“The school and family environment should not remain unaware of this situation, meaning that the practice is minimized and eliminated. In the virtual space, the crime is more serious, as insults and provocations are permanently tormenting the victims. Before, embarrassment was restricted to socializing at school. Now it’s all the time,”

concluded Vianna.
