Pirajá, from SP, becomes a carioca heritage and gets new draft beer – 08/18/2023 – Full Glass

Inaugurated in 1998, on Av. Brigadeiro Faria Lima, Pirajá has always had a foot (or two) in Rio de Janeiro. After all, it was the passion for the Rio de Janeiro bar soul that inspired the partners of Cia. Tradicional de Comércio to open the bar, full of references to Rio’s neighbors, whether in the decoration or in the menu.

Because now Pirajá is no longer just a homage, it has become Rio heritage. This Thursday (17), the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, visited the headquarters of Faria Lima and presented the house with the blue plaque of Carioca Cultural Heritage.

The text on the plaque describes that “since 1998, when it was inaugurated, Pirajá has been the affective embassy of Rio de Janeiro in São Paulo. Rio de Janeiro. It’s the place where São Paulo is carioca.”

The mayor of Rio took the opportunity to speak about the importance of the union of cities. “I see São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as very complementary cities and, today, it is the first time that outside the limits of the city of Rio, we come and deliver the Carioca Heritage plaque”, he said. “We are very proud to have this Carioca representation in São Paulo, which is a city for all of us Brazilians, which has people from all over the country”, completed Paes.

The mayor of São Paulo Ricardo Nunes and chef Benny Novak were also present at the ceremony, in addition to the partners of Pirajá.

“Twenty-five years after embarking with my partners [Edgard Costa, Sergio Camargo, Mario Gorski, e Fernando Grinberg] to Rio de Janeiro aboard a van, seeking to discover the truest bar in the Marvelous City, winning recognition from the city of Rio de Janeiro as a gift is very rewarding”, commented Ricardo Garrido. “A sign that we managed to translate the soul and bohemian carioca and become the true embassy of the city in São Paulo.”

In addition to the Faria Lima house, Pirajá has another ten units, including a recently opened one in the north of São Paulo.

In addition to winning the plaque, this Thursday the bar also launched a new draft beer, Pirajá, the result of a partnership with the Hocus Pocus brewery —which is also from Rio de Janeiro, but has a branch in Largo da Batata, in Pinheiros.

With 5.0% alcohol, the new draft beer (R$ 18, the caldereta) is of the session IPA style, with moderate bitterness, refreshing and based on oats and wheat, easy to drink. It goes well with the classic portion of Pastéix.
