The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) asked this Monday (24) that the social networks used by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) be obliged to inform whether 244 people denounced for alleged participation in the acts of January 8 “are or are no longer” followers of the former president. The request was forwarded to the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.

On the 17th, Santos had requested the identification of all Bolsonaro’s followers. After the repercussions, the sub-prosecutor said that the request was not an investigation against the followers. The defense of the former president called the request “ideological patrolling”. Now, the PGR has restricted the request to 244 denounced for acts of vandalism.

In the new petition, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Carlos Frederico Santos, also requested that the platforms inform whether these 244 people “reposted content released by the politician with messages referring to matters such as fraud in elections, electronic ballot boxes, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Armed Forces and Military intervention”, reported the PGR.

The Attorney General’s Office pointed out that the change in the request was motivated by an operational issue, as Bolsonaro has millions of followers on his social networks. Santos argued that “the analysis of the required information would demand time and effort, which, at this moment, could compromise the operational capacity to quickly collect the requested data, in addition to the risk of compromising the secure flow for the transmission of information”.

“It is important to make it clear, however, that undertaking a new dynamic in the investigation does not mean failing to punish those who should be duly punished, once their respective culpability is glimpsed”, stressed the assistant prosecutor.
