The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) denounced deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) for illegally carrying a firearm and illegal embarrassment with the use of a firearm. The complaint was presented to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and refers to the episode that occurred on the eve of the second round of elections, last year, reported the g1 portal.
On the occasion, the parliamentarian chased a supporter of President Lula (PT) through the streets of an upscale neighborhood of São Paulo with a gun in hand after an argument. Zambelli was the target of a search and seizure determined by Minister Gilmar Mendes after the episode. In December, the deputy’s weapons were seized.
In the complaint, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, Lindôra Araújo, claims that the parliamentarian was not authorized to use the weapon ostensibly in public. “The permission to carry a firearm granted to the accused is intended solely and exclusively for her personal defense; never to constrain the freedom of the interlocutor and make him apologize for his political positions, electoral preferences and alleged manifested injurious acts, even if under the pretext of protecting, in theory, his tarnished honor”, says the PGR.
The Attorney’s Office asks the STF to condemn Zambelli to pay a fine of R$100,000 for collective moral damages. In addition, the PGR requests the definitive cancellation of the possession of a weapon. In a note, the deputy said “that her defense will be presented within the legal period and that, in the course of the process, it will demonstrate who was the victim and the real aggressor in the events that occurred”.
“The Deputy reinforces that she was legally authorized to carry a weapon by the Federal Police and that, during the events, she only drew her weapon because the person who unjustly assaulted her and threatened her several times was arrested. Finally, Zambelli informs that she has cooperated, as she always will, with the authorities for the fulfillment of any decision regarding the matter, ”the statement reads.
