PGR denounces another 203 for inciting the acts of 1/8 – 04/05/2023 – Power

The PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) sent this Tuesday (4) another 203 complaints to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) against those accused of inciting the coup acts of January 8.

According to the agency, the complaints concern people who were arrested red-handed in front of the Army Barracks in Brasília one day after the attacks.

In all, there are already 1,390 denounced within the scope of the investigations that deal with anti-democratic acts, with 239 in the core of executors, 1,150 of inciters and one person in the core that investigates alleged omission by public agents.

With the denouncements presented, the strategic group to combat anti-democratic acts of the PGR exhausted the work to those arrested on the 8th at Praça dos Três Poderes (executors with vandalism of public buildings) and those arrested the day after the invasions, in the camp in front of the Army HQ in Brasilia, the instigators.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, any pending cases will still be evaluated and the appropriate measures taken in a timely manner, including any complaints,

Also according to the coordinator, with the conclusion of this stage, the group will be able to advance in the investigations that seek to identify the financiers of the acts and the omission of public agents on the day of the attacks.

The 203 people denounced will answer for the crimes of incitement equivalent to the animosity of the Armed Forces against the constitutional Powers and criminal association, whose maximum penalty, in case of conviction, is up to four years of imprisonment.

“For this reason, the PGR called for the provisional release of these people, with the adoption of precautionary measures such as banning the use of social networks, contact with other defendants, in addition to periodic appearances in court, among others. This has been the standard adopted for light crimes”, says the agency.

As for the complaints against executors, who are responsible for more serious crimes, such as a coup d’état and a violent attempt to abolish the Democratic State of Law, with penalties that can reach 30 years of imprisonment, the PGR asked for the maintenance of precautionary prisons.

The complaint is the first stage of a public criminal action. It is presented at the end of the investigations. Once accepted by Justice, it turns the accused into defendants and can result in conviction for the crimes mentioned.
