Brasilia DF) – The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) reported to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) 39 people involved in the invasion and depredation of the Senate building on January 8 and charged the blockade of 40 million reais to compensate for damages caused to public property, reported the agency in a statement on Monday.

According to the PGR, those accused must answer for crimes that include armed criminal association, violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law and coup d’état, among others.

Last week, at the request of the Attorney General’s Office (AGU), the Federal Court ordered the blockade of 6.5 million reais from 52 people and seven companies suspected of bearing the costs of chartering buses for acts of invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, had told the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), earlier this Monday, that he had 40 complaints ready to be presented to Justice against those involved in the invasion of the buildings of the Powers .

Lira was with Aras to present a report on the internal investigations regarding the identification of people who participated in the vandalism actions.

In a change of profile since former President Jair Bolsonaro left command of the country and pressured by fellow prosecutors and parliamentarians, the PGR last week asked for the inclusion of the former Chief Executive as investigated for anti-democratic actions before the Supreme Court. Federal (STF). STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized the investigation.

The attorney general –appointed and reappointed by Bolsonaro– always had a discreet performance when the former president commanded the Planalto Palace.

Aras highlighted that the great concern is that attacks like those that occurred on the 8th will never happen again.

“Democracy has a high price, we need to form a social consensus”,

said.

Police had arrested about 1,400 people as of Monday for the attacks and said they would be charged with crimes including terrorism and an attempted coup.
