The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) manifested itself this Wednesday (1st) by maintaining the preventive detention of the former Commander General of the Military Police of the Federal District, Colonel Fábio Augusto Vieira. The opinion was forwarded to the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes. The magistrate had given 24 hours for the PGR to give an opinion on the request for revocation of the arrest presented by the defense.

The colonel has been arrested since January 10th for alleged failure to contain acts of vandalism in Brasilia. The manifestation of the PGR is signed by the coordinator of the Strategic Group to Combat Anti-Democratic Acts, deputy attorney general of the Republic Carlos Frederico Santos.

“There has been no change in the situation in fact or in law since the decision determining the preventive detention of the applicant, which, therefore, must be maintained”, wrote Santos. The document is the intelligence report sent to DF authorities and dated January 6 – two days before the acts – in which the existence of a risk of taking power with the invasion of Congress is pointed out, informed the PGR.

“Given the public calls for the acts that resulted in the investigated crimes, it was expected that the general commander would take the lead and take the initiative to verify that all the measures had been adopted for the complete fulfillment of the mission of the Military Police, which, in this case, consisted, among other things, of not allowing access for people and vehicles to Praça dos Três Poderes”, said Santos.

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) also requested that the Federal Police present, within 15 days, a partial report of the investigations, including the analysis of the material seized in previous diligences.
