PGR asks for breach of secrecy of military police arrested in the DF

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) asked this Tuesday (7) for the breach of banking, tax, telephone and cell phone message secrecy of the four military police officers of the Federal District arrested by the Federal Police on suspicion of omission in the acts of January 8 , which culminated in the invasion of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília. The request would have already been authorized by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), reported TV Globo and the g1 portal.

The PGR argues that the breach of secrecy is necessary to “obtain evidence of the involvement of those represented in anti-democratic acts, such as threats, incitement to violence and enlistment of third parties, as well as to identify the origin of the financing of illegal actions that threaten the democratic regime. and the structure of the Rule of Law”, says the document.

The breach of secrecy targets Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, then head of the PMDF’s Operational Department; Major Flávio Silvestre de Alencar, Captain Josiel Pereira César and Lieutenant Rafael Pereira Martins.

In the petition involving Barreto, the PGR also asks for the breach of confidentiality of Commander Paulo José Ferreira de Sousa Bezerra, who replaced him in the corporation and was the subject of a search and seizure warrant.

The requests involve the verification of telephone data and WhatsApp communications since the second round of the presidential elections, and bank secrecy since January 1, 2022 to “assess the evolution of movement and possible financing by third parties”.

According to the investigations that led to the arrest of the police this Tuesday (7), Barreto would have drawn up the Federal District’s security plan to contain the demonstration scheduled for January 8 and had taken leave that weekend. The other agents of the corporation would have been silent on the command’s orders.

Barreto was the subject of a preventive arrest warrant, while the other three were temporarily arrested. The colonel’s defense said that he acted “according to the law and technique, carrying out all the arrests within reach of the material conditions with which he had at the time”, in a statement to CNN Brasil.

The warrants executed this Tuesday (7) were issued by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and constitute, according to the PF, the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, criminal association, incitement to crime, destruction and deterioration or destruction of specially protected property.

Since Operation Lesa Pátria started to be carried out, since January 20, 16 preventive arrest warrants and 31 search and seizure warrants have already been served.
