Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined that the Federal Police take the statement of Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) within 5 days. The objective is to clarify the revelation he made to the press of an alleged plan, which would have been devised by former president Jair Bolsonaro and by former deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ), to annul the election of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and arrest Moraes.
Do Val told Veja magazine that Bolsonaro and Silveira asked him, in December, to meet with Moraes and record the conversation – the expectation was that the minister would confide in the senator that he had acted irregularly to harm Bolsonaro in the electoral race. With this alleged recording, the former president would try to overthrow the election, pointing out fraud.
The interrogation of Marcos do Val was requested by the PF within the scope of the investigation, conducted by Moraes in the STF, which investigates authorities of the Federal District who would have been colluding with the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília, on January 8. The minister considers that the acts of vandalism amounted to the crime of a coup d’état and an attempt to violently abolish the democratic rule of law.
“As widely reported, Senator Marcos do Val disclosed on his social networks that he had received a proposal with the aim of breaking the Democratic State of Law, a circumstance that must be clarified in the broader context of this investigation, notably with regard to possible coup intentions” , justified the minister in the dispatch that authorized the testimony.
In the request to take the statement, the PF stated that the senator “recently disclosed on his social networks having relevant information regarding the investigation in question”. Moraes determined that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which requested the opening of the inquiry into the case, be notified of the decision.
In the same investigation, the minister already determined the inclusion of a draft decree, seized at the home of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, for Bolsonaro to declare a state of defense at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), chaired by Moraes, to question the election result. In addition, it determined that the president of the PL, Valdemar da Costa Neto, clarify, in a statement, a statement to the press that there would be similar proposals to annul Lula’s election.
