PF wants Amazon Fund resources to be based in the region – 06/17/2023 – Panel

The PF (Federal Police) will ask the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) for resources from the Amazon Fund to build an International Police Cooperation Center (CCPI) in the region that shelters the forest.
The demand has already been dealt with by the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, with the president of the BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, manager of the fund. In all, actions for the region with these resources should add up to R$ 1 billion.
According to the director of the PF’s Amazon and Environment, Humberto Freire, the idea is to have a centralized control command with all the countries of the Legal Amazon. “It is necessary to have common structuring axes, aligned investigation techniques and doctrines, formalization of evidence. This helps to fight crime in the region”, he explains.
The crimes committed in the Amazon are often linked to organizations that operate in the nations with which Brazil borders, since, in the forest, it is not possible to have a more effective control.
According to the initial design, representatives of the police and security departments of neighboring countries would work in the same place. The structure is compared to the command and control center used by the PF during the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
At the moment, a letter of intent is being consolidated by the MJ to be sent to the BNDES. Meanwhile, the PF attaches in the bordering countries are already talking to their local counterparts.
