PF uses aggression against journalist to keep Lula safe – 09/06/2023 – Panel

The aggression against press professionals during the Summit of the Americas, held in May in Brasilia, became yet another argument in the PF (Federal Police) in favor of maintaining presidential security under its responsibility.
By law, the security of foreign delegations is the responsibility of the PF, which is in charge of all stages, including escort, area sweeps and displacements.
Of the nine delegations present at the meeting, the only one that had any complications was that of the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro, who had the participation of the GSI.
As Maduro left the Itamaraty Palace and answered questions from the press, at least three journalists reported attacks. Reporter Delis Ortiz, from TV Globo, claimed to have received a punch in the chest. Reporter Sergio Roxo, from O Globo, was dragged by his clothes and then immobilized; and a third professional, Sofia Aguiar, from Agência Estado, said she was pushed by a security guard. The GSI instituted an investigation.
The PF has been responsible for the immediate security of the president since the beginning of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and has been investing in the training and qualification of personnel. The corporation intends to maintain the attribution, initially scheduled to end on June 30.
The GSI (Institutional Security Office), however, which was responsible for the attribution before, sees it as natural to resume the task with the end of the validity of the decree.
In an interview with Sheet, Minister Marco Antônio Amaro stated that the return of the role to the GSI was “practically decided”.
