PF targets WhatsApp group with Army commanders – 06/17/2023 – Politics

The Federal Police report on the preliminary analysis of cell phones seized from Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former assistant to Jair Bolsonaro (PL), shows a WhatsApp group composed of senior officers on active duty who oscillated between resignation and requests for coup against the election of Lula (PT).

A Sheet identified six of the 12 soldiers present in the group. They are colonels and lieutenant colonels trained by Aman (Military Academy of Agulhas Negras) between 1993 and 2000 and who currently hold positions of command and parliamentary advisory in the Army.

The group is titled “Dosssss!!!” and has, as a profile image, a drawing of two dolls, one kicking the other, with the phrase in English “careful: this is Sparta” —a reference to the movie “The 300 of Sparta”. The messages cited by the PF are from the period between November 27, 2022 and January 4, 2023.

Colonel Gian Dermario da Silva, commander of the Special Operations Instruction Center, is one of the most critical of the group.

In the messages, he says that the Army could have acted “a long time ago” in the areas of Special Operations, Intelligence, Counterintelligence and Psychological Operations “within legality” to “minimize these impacts”. He commented on the news that the general officers chosen by Lula would take office in command of the Forces still in December.

Then, asked what he thought could resolve the situation, Gian replies: “An action by the PR and FA, which I hope will take place in the coming days”, in reference to then President Bolsonaro and the Armed Forces.

“Yes, no turning back, either the PR/FA do something, or they get dragged into the problem, which is worse”, he adds.

The commander also said that he will place “a lot of emphasis here on this CFEsp discipline”, in a reference to the Special Forces Course, carried out by the area that Gian is responsible for.

Colonel Marcio Nunes de Resende Junior, currently assigned to the General Staff of the Army, is one of the defenders of the military coup against democracy in the group.

“If Bolsonaro calls 142, there will be no general holding the troops. Either he participates or asks to leave,” he said.

The message was sent last December 21, when generals from the Army High Command were attacked by Bolsonarists for not supporting the Armed Forces’ coup requests.

The impression that circulated among groups of officers, however, was that a military intervention would have the support of soldiers with a rank lower than that of four-star general.

“If we don’t have the courage to face the head of an egg and an electoral fraud, who are we going to face???”, wrote Marcio.

Already in January, the colonel sent new messages in the WhatsApp group. He commented that the level of dissatisfaction within the Army was so great that it would be impracticable for the Force or the Judiciary to punish everyone who manifested against the position of the military leaders.

“I still think you guys are too scared… If anyone has read our messages, they’ll prefer to pretend they haven’t read them. First of all, besides this group, there are thousands of others. Are they going to arrest or punish everyone??? In the bush, they prefer to pretend that it’s okay, that the FA are not scammers. Not even comrade print worries me. What are they going to do with it? Maybe some ticks (And look, it will have to be a fucking tick, it’s a lot of people)…. but in practice no one wants more instability yet. Imagine AM messing with that wasp’s nest!!! Or imagine this eventual witch hunt within the Force itself!!! = put out fire with gasoline”, he said.

Another soldier, whose contact is saved by Mauro Cid as “Ferreira Lima”, pondered after Márcio’s messages.

“Nobody here is trying to take power… these are just opinions. If you can’t give opinions, then even the Commandos have already accepted to be subjugated. So fuck…”, he wrote. “It’s not even possible to assess the effect of all this on strength yet.”

“The fuck is that it was too nice to be just that […] Guaranteed salary, warrior with absolute certainty not to fight, one escape or another earning well out there… it was too good for us to want to leave that comfort”, he complained.

At another point, Colonel Felipe Guimarães Rodrigues, current parliamentary adviser to the Army in the Senate, said: “Other braggarts…were unable to stop a clear electoral fraud within their territory !!!”.

The message, however, does not make it clear whether the complaint is made against the military who worked with the Ministry of Defense in overseeing the electoral process or the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).

The Defense carried out a series of auditing and inspection actions in the electoral process, invited by the TSE, and the military’s final report did not identify fraud in the elections, contrary to what Bolsonaro claimed at the time.

Despite being a member of the group, Mauro Cid does not appear in the exchanges of messages reproduced in the Federal Police report.

In a letter sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), delegate Fábio Shor stated that the messages exchanged between the military “encourage […] the execution of a coup d’état after the 2022 elections”.

“The evidence presented here, arising from the partial analysis carried out on the seized devices, confirms the criminal hypothesis related to the participation of those investigated in the attempt to carry out a coup d’état, either through inducement and instigation of a portion of the population adhering to the ideology professed policy, whether through preparatory and executory acts themselves”, concluded the PF delegate.

A Sheet sought out all military members of the group cited by the PF in the report. Reserve officer André Luiz, known as Bodão, said that his only manifestations in the group “were about an antivirus”.

Colonels Rodrigo Lopes Bragança Silva and Marcio Nunes preferred not to comment. The Army and others cited did not respond.
