PF searches against Carla Zambelli and arrests hacker – 08/02/2023 – Politics

This Wednesday morning (2) the Federal Police carried out search and seizure warrants at the addresses of congresswoman Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) and arrested Walter Delgatti, known as the ‘Vaza Jato’ hacker. Zambelli is one of the main allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The two are suspected of acting in a plot that targeted Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, and which resulted in the invasion of the systems of the CNJ (National Council of Justice) and the insertion of false documents and release permits in the Banco Nacional de Mandados of Prison.

Searches against Zambelli are carried out at his office in the Chamber of Deputies and at residential addresses.

In the first stage of the investigation, on June 20, a search and seizure warrant had been served against Delgatti, who was heard and confessed to part of the criminal practice, detailing the way of acting and indicating others who would have involvement with the facts.

At the time, the investigated reported that the purpose of the invasion was to demonstrate the vulnerabilities of the Brazilian judicial system, as a way of discrediting the electronic voting system, since it would not be possible to “invade” the electronic ballot boxes over the internet.

The hacker famous for hacking into the Telegram accounts of Lava Jato prosecutors had meetings in August 2022 with campaign members and allies of then-President Bolsonaro.

At the time, interlocutors told the Sheet that Delgatti met with Valdemar da Costa Neto, president of the PL. According to allies of the party leader, the meeting was intermediated by Zambelli.

Members of the Bolsonarist campaign say that the deputy took Delgatti to the party without prior notice and claim that Valdemar did not continue the conversations. Also according to members of the campaign, Valdemar ruled out bringing the hacker closer to the campaign because he did not like the content of the meeting.

According to what Veja magazine reported at the time, the purpose of the alleged meeting between the president and Delgatti was to try to engage the hacker in Bolsonaro’s crusade against electronic voting machines.

The then head of the Planalto carried out frequent attacks against the electoral system, and his coup-like rhetoric was pointed out by critics as an argument that could be used by the president to question the result of the elections, which in fact occurred.

Earlier this year, in an interview with SheetZambelli was asked about the meeting.

She answered: “[Sobre grampear Moraes] Anything. I hired him on the first shift to do automatic linking between my networks and my website. He started to do it, but he didn’t finish. The meeting with Bolsonaro was about the fragility of the ballot box. What I feel about Walter is that he did all of this in a way to redeem himself for the guilt he had for Lula running.

Delgatti had already been arrested in July 2019 by the Federal Police in Operation Spoofing, which was investigating the existence of a gang responsible for “cyber crimes”. According to the corporation, he led a hacker attack against authorities and accessed message exchanges by Lava Jato prosecutors through Telegram.

The then head of the operation’s task force, Deltan Dallagnol, was one of those hacked. Thus, his messages were made public with other investigators and also with the then judge of the case, the former Minister of Justice in the Bolsonaro government and now candidate for the Senate Sergio Moro (União-PR).

Delgatti admitted to the PF having accessed the prosecutors’ cell phones and forwarded the messages to The Intercept Brasil website, which revealed the case later known as Vaza Jato. Other vehicles participated in the dissemination of the information obtained, including Sheet.

The leaked dialogues indicated joint action by prosecutors with Moro in the processes involving former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the operation. The material played a central role in the judgments at the STF (Federal Supreme Court) that declared Moro’s suspicion in the convictions against the PT.
