PF says there is no evidence against Renan in Lava Jato case – 02/23/2023 – Politics

The Federal Police informed, in a report forwarded to the STF (Federal Supreme Court), that it has no evidence that Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) received bribes in an alleged scheme related to Transpetro, a Petrobras subsidiary, pointed out as part of the Operation Lava Jato.

The report on the case was sent to Minister Edson Fachin, rapporteur for the operation cases in the court, on Wednesday (22).

The investigations, which investigated suspected crimes of passive corruption and money laundering, were initiated based on the award-winning accusations.

Among them were Sérgio Machado, former president of Transpetro, and Paulo Roberto Costa, former director of Petrobras, who died last year.

According to police chief Lorena Lima Nascimento, “after analyzing the material evidence and listening to the allegedly involved, it was not observed the existence of elements that could corroborate the criminal hypothesis object of the present investigation”.

“The collaborators heard presented versions, in part, consistent with the facts, but they were not able to bring to the file or to produce from them evidence elements capable of corroborating them.”

According to the delegate, the documents presented in the investigation file were also unable to “demonstrate a direct link between the bribe payments intended for the then president of Transpetro and their final destination, albeit partially, to the investigated parliamentarian José Renan Vasconcelos Calheiros “.

“The tracing of the path of money in cash perished in time, both because of the long time lapse, and because there is no direct link that the values ​​supposedly delivered by Wilson Quintella Filho, or by third parties appointed under the guidelines of Sergio Machado, had the investigated parliamentarian as their final destination”, said the Federal Police delegate.

Fachin must now ask the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, to comment on the case.
