The Federal Police told the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that Congresswoman Silvia Waiãpi (PL-AP) committed a crime by allegedly encouraging, on social networks, the extremist acts of January 8. Now, it is up to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to decide whether or not to charge the parliamentarian.
Investigators also highlighted that the deputy’s statements occurred when she was not yet protected by the rule of immunity for opinions, words and votes.
“Inquired by the Federal Police, Silvia acknowledged that she made the questioned post, but denied that she had participated in the demonstration and pronounced the phrases that are said in the video, presenting documents that indicate that she was in the City of Rio de Janeiro on January 8, 2023” , said the Police.
“Silvia Waiãpi confirmed that in the publication of the video she inserted the following caption: “People take the Esplanada dos Ministérios this Sunday! Seizure of power by the Brazilian people dissatisfied with the red government”. Although he maintains that the post had a journalistic sense of information, the support and approval of the criminal action is undeniable in the caption”, continued the police.
The investigators also reported that it is “possible that the parliamentarian has removed some compromising material”, since there are few materials on the subject on her social networks.
