The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, said this Tuesday (28) that the Federal Police may ask the Judiciary to take measures for “international legal cooperation” if former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) does not appear to testify in inquiries in which is being investigated, according to statements published by Folha de São Paulo.

According to the minister, there are ongoing investigations in which Bolsonaro is one of those formally investigated, and that he will have to be heard at some point. “If he doesn’t show up in the next few months, it’s clear that the Federal Police will ask for measures”, said Dino.

“Ask who? To the Judiciary, to trigger some international legal cooperation mechanism, which is a tendency that we are defending. It is not something restricted to this investigation”, he added.

One of the mechanisms for this would be the sending of a rogatory letter, a letter of communication between members of the Judiciary from different countries used to request demands – such as the testimony of a person who is abroad. Bolsonaro has been in the United States since the end of last year.

“It would be possible [a extradição], some measure of international legal cooperation would be possible, a letter rogatory, for example. the term [para que Bolsonaro retorne ao país] it is the period of common sense that we hope he has”, he said.

According to the website, Dino would have cited as an example of cooperation the case of the player Robinho, in which the sportsman can be transferred to Brazilian territory at the request of the Italian Justice. According to the minister, the portfolio recognized that this procedure was possible and forwarded the case to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
