The Federal Police scheduled the testimony of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres for 10:30 am this Wednesday (18). The date was endorsed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
Torres, also a former DF Security Secretary, has been arrested since Saturday (14) in a Military Police unit in the Federal District.
Rodrigo Roca, Torres’ lawyer, said, however, that he will not hold the hearing before having access to the investigation records.
Former minister of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Torres was arrested on Saturday morning by the Federal Police upon returning from the United States.
He is the first Minister of Justice to be arrested since redemocratization and the first member of the Bolsonaro government arrested as a result of anti-democratic acts.
On Tuesday (10), Moraes ordered the arrest of Torres after the episode of coup attacks against the headquarters of the three Powers, on Sunday (8).
Torres had resumed command of the Public Security Secretariat of the Federal District on January 2nd and traveled to the US on vacation five days later. He was not in Brazil when Bolsonarists attacked and destroyed the STF, Congress and Palácio do Planalto buildings.
The then secretary was exonerated from office by Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) on Sunday, hours before the emedebist was removed from the Federal District government by order of the STF.
In addition to his arrest, Moraes ordered searches at the former minister’s residence.
On Thursday (12), the Sheet revealed that, during the operation, the Federal Police found in Torres’ residence a draft (proposal) of a decree for then President Bolsonaro to establish a state of defense at the headquarters of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).
The objective, according to the text, was to reverse the result of the election, in which Lula won. Such a measure would be unconstitutional.
The PF will investigate the circumstances of the preparation of the proposal. He denies being the author of the draft and said that a pile of documents in his house would be shredded.
