PF listens to Bolsonaro and targets former president as a possible intellectual author of 8/1 – 04/26/2023 – Politics

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is expected this Wednesday morning (26) at the headquarters of the Federal Police, in Brasília, to give testimony in the context of the investigation that investigates the coup attacks of January 8.

Bolsonaro will testify in one of the investigations opened by the PF, which targets the masterminds of the coup attempt that led to the invasion and depredation of the Planalto Palace, Congress and the STF (Federal Supreme Court).

Throughout his term (2019-2022), Bolsonaro accumulated coup-like statements and, upon losing last year’s elections, encouraged his supporters to remain in camps that asked the Armed Forces for federal intervention to prevent President Lula from taking office.

The former president returned to Brazil on March 30, after a stay of almost three months in the United States. Bolsonaro had left the country one day before the end of his term, thus interrupting the historical tradition of passing the presidential sash to his successor.

This will be his second statement to the Federal Police after his return. The former representative has already had to explain the case of jewelry received from Saudi Arabian authorities.

Now you will need to comment on your possible participation in the events on January 8th. On that date, his supporters invaded and vandalized the Planalto, Congress and Supreme Court. The PF opened four fronts of investigation after the attacks by Bolsonaristas camped at the Army HQ.

One of them targets possible intellectual authors, and it is this front that can reach Bolsonaro. Another aims to map the funders and those responsible for the logistics of the camp and transporting Bolsonaristas to Brasília.

The third focus of the PF investigation is vandals. Investigators want to identify and individualize the conduct of each of those involved in the depredation of historic buildings in the federal capital.

The fourth line of investigation advances on authorities that were omitted during the 8th of January and that facilitated the action of the coup plotters.

These investigations gave rise to ten ostensive phases of Lesa Pátria so far, triggered by the PF to advance the investigations.

On the eve of his testimony, the former president spent the afternoon meeting with lawyers and advisors to train the response he will give to investigators, as reported by columnist Mônica Bergamo.

Bolsonaro was summoned to testify for having shared on social media, two days after the invasion of the Planalto Palace, a video of attacks on the security of electronic voting machines. The post was made two days after 8/1, and deleted shortly after it was made public.
