Lula again relativizes the role of the invading Russia in the war and defends the “G20 of Peace”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again relativized Russia’s role in the war against Ukraine and said that “there is no point in discussing who is right and who is wrong” in the conflict in Eastern Europe. The statement was given during a speech this Wednesday morning (26) in Madrid, during his official visit to Spain, in which he also defended a reform of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) and the creation of the that it would be a “G20 of peace”.

According to him, the organization created after the Second World War lost its importance on the international scene and needs to be reformed, with the inclusion of countries like Brazil, Spain, Japan, Germany, among others. “It’s no use discussing who is right and who is wrong, what matters is to stop the war”.

“We live in a strange world where the UN Security Council, the permanent members, they are all the biggest arms producers and sellers in the world. And I keep asking myself if it’s not up to us, other countries that are not permanent members, to make a change in the UN, to add more countries. Who determines? The victors of WWII, but that was many years ago,” she said.

Lula stated that it is necessary to build a new mechanism for international cooperation between countries, and mentioned that the UN is not able to move forward with the creation of the Palestinian nation as it managed with Israel, in 1948. “Just for us to measure what happened in all these years” , he stated.

President Lula has been in Spain since Monday (25) after a five-day trip to Portugal, where he participated in a solemn ceremony at the Assembly of the Republic in reference to the Carnation Revolution.
