The Federal Police completed the expertise on the set of diamond jewelry given as a gift to the entourage of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in 2021, and assessed that the artifacts are worth R$ 5.1 million. Initially, the kit was valued at R$ 16.5 million, according to Folha de São Paulo at the time.
PF experts analyzed more than two thousand stones and also the quality of the gold present in the pieces, in addition to checking information with the manufacturer itself – the Swiss brand Chopard – to determine more precisely what they call the “artistic value” of the jewels. The information was revealed by GloboNews.
The set consists of a white gold necklace with dozens of diamond-studded pendants, a pair of earrings, a ring and a wristwatch made of the same materials, housed in a velvet-covered leather box.
The jewels were given as a gift by the government of Saudi Arabia to the then first lady Michelle Bolsonaro through an advisor to former minister Bento Albuquerque, of Mines and Energy. The set, however, was seized by the Federal Revenue at São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport without the legal declaration.
Since then, the Federal Police has been investigating the case and those involved.
