PF carries out operation against CACs one day after the deadline for re-registering weapons

The Federal Police have been carrying out, since the early hours of this Thursday (4), dozens of preventive, temporary and definitive arrest warrants across the country against collectors, shooters and hunters (CACs) who have legal restrictions on carrying or possessing weapons. of fire.

The operation titled “Day after” takes place one day after the end of the deadline for the re-registration of weapons in the National Weapons System (Sinarm), of the PF. The registration was determined in February by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for objects acquired from May 2019.

According to the PF, the warrants are fulfilled “due to the commission of various crimes; in addition to other arrests for food debts for which the Justice determined the arrest of defaulters”. The exact number of people cited and states was not informed.

“Since the existence of an arrest warrant violates the requirement of suitability for obtaining the possession of a firearm, measures are being adopted for the precautionary seizure of weapons and documents found, for a subsequent process of revocation of possession or registration of a firearm. , by the PF, in addition to communication to the Brazilian Army, for the cancellation of the authorizations granted to the CACs”, completes the PF statement on the operation.

Re-registered weapons add up to more than those reported to the Army

Since the beginning of the deadline for the re-registration of weapons in the Federal Police system, 939,154 registrations have been made, according to data from the Ministry of Justice released this Thursday (4). Of these, 894,890 are permitted weapons and 44,264 are restricted.

The number of weapons re-registered in the Federal Police system is greater than that registered in the Army, 933,233. There are, however, 6,168 weapons for restricted use still pending re-registration. “The legal measures will be adopted”, said Flávio Dino, Minister of Justice.

He also said that the operation against the CACs will be permanent for those who “do not meet legal suitability requirements to own firearms. These are also being seized. It will be a permanent line of work for the PF”.
