President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will swear in reserve general Marcos Antônio Amaro dos Santos as the new commander of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) this Thursday (4th), in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace, at 9 am. The appointment of the military officer was made official in the Official Gazette of the Union (see in full).

Amaro assumes command of the GSI after an interim period by Ricardo Cappelli, appointed shortly after the leak of images showing civil and military agents from the cabinet circulating among protesters who invaded the Planalto Palace on January 8, which led to his resignation. by General Gonçalves Dias, who commanded the portfolio at the time.

Amaro’s appointment to the post is seen in the political circles as a defeat for a wing of the government, which defended the extinction of the portfolio or the appointment of a civilian to command, as revealed by the People’s Gazette this Wednesday (3).

With the arrival of the general to the GSI, Cappelli returns to the position of Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, also made official in the Federal Official Gazette (see in full).
