The Federal Police arrested in Rio de Janeiro, this Monday morning (24), a suspect involved in the death of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, five years ago. It was during Operation Élpis that he also served six search and seizure warrants within the FT-MA (Task Force Marielle and Anderson), according to the state Public Ministry.

“Today, the Federal Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office advanced in the investigation into the homicides of Councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in addition to the attempted murder of publicist Fernanda Chaves. A preventive arrest warrant and seven search and seizure warrants were served,” said Minister Flávio Dino, of Justice, in a statement. social network.

The investigations passed to the Federal Police in February after being processed for almost five years by the Rio de Janeiro police. Preliminary information indicates that the person arrested this Monday (24) is former firefighter Maxwell Simões Corrêa, known as Suel, sentenced to prison in 2021 for making investigations difficult, but was serving time in an open regime.

According to the MP, Suel was the owner of the car used to hide weapons that were in an apartment owned by Ronnie Lessa, a retired military police officer accused of being one of the perpetrators of the murder.

He and a second accused, Élcio de Queiroz, were arrested during the first phase of investigations conducted by the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro and will be judged by the Jury Court on a date yet to be set.
