The Federal Police and the Public Ministry arrested the suspect of dismantling and discarding the vehicle used by criminals during the murder of Rio councilor Marielle Franco (Psol) and driver Anderson Gomes. The operation was carried out in the early evening of Wednesday (28).

Prosecutors presented the complaint based on the plea bargain made by Élcio de Queiroz last year. Queiroz would be the driver of the Cobalt used in the crime, which occurred on March 14, 2018. According to the MP, the owner of a scrapyard, arrested that night, “prevented and embarrassed the investigations into criminal offenses involving a criminal organization, causing serious damage to the administration of Justice and, consequently, to the search for truth”.

In a statement, the police reported that the man, who had already been reported in August 2023, was arrested near his residence in the Santa Cruz da Serra neighborhood, municipality of Duque de Caxias (RJ). The arrest warrant was issued by the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Capital. He was taken to the PF Regional Superintendence and will later be sent to the prison system.

In February last year, a task force from the Federal and Civil Police with the Special Action Group for the Repression of Organized Crime (Gaeco), from the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, took charge of the investigations.
