Pelé’s children agree with the inclusion of stepdaughter among the heirs

The six children of Pelé, who died on December 29 from colon cancer, agreed with the inclusion of Gemima, stepdaughter of the King of Football, among the heirs. The inventory is being handled by the 2nd Family and Probate Court of Santos and the family has valued discretion. O Estadão found that the full amount of the inheritance is still being raised by the lawyers. It is estimated that Pelé left a fortune of R$ 78 million.

Born in the United States, Gemima is the daughter of Assíria Lemos, whom Pelé married in 1994. The girl was only three years old at the time of the union and grew up with the King as a father figure, despite not having been mentioned in the will. She claimed the right to inheritance claiming “socio-affective bond”. Gemima and Pele remained on good terms even after the football legend divorced his mother. The family awaits the court’s decision on the stepdaughter’s request for inclusion in the inventory.

O Estadão it also found out that Pelé’s children have not yet taken the DNA test so that it can prove the existence of a new daughter of the King of Football. Pelé was responding in court to a paternity action filed by Maria do Socorro Azevedo, who is represented by the São Paulo Public Defender’s Office and claims to be his daughter, also making her the player’s legitimate heir.

The King did not appeal and decided that he was going to take the DNA test, but he ended up dying before carrying out the test. He mentioned the possibility of having another daughter in his will and the children promptly understood that the examination was necessary to continue the probate process smoothly, but also for the matter not to end up being judged inappropriately in the courts.

In March, Márcia Aoki, Pelé’s widow, agreed that her husband’s estate should be managed by Edinho, the King’s most famous son. With the approval of the brothers, the former goalkeeper asked to manage his father’s inheritance as soon as the inventory was opened, arguing that he was in possession of inventoried assets and more familiar with the family business. The transfer of the function of executor was considered by the 2nd Family and Probate Court of Santos.

In the will, signed in 2020, Pelé allocates 30% of all his assets to Márcia – including a house in Guarujá -, 60% to be divided between his six children and another 10% for two grandchildren, children of Sandra Regina, who died in 2006, daughter he never recognized. If Maria do Socorro is recognized as a legitimate heir, she enters into the division of 60% with her children.

Márcia married Pelé in 2016, when the King was already 75 years old. According to the Brazilian Civil Code, all people over the age of 70 must marry with separation of property. Aged 56, she was the athlete’s third wife and had been dating him since 2010. The widow, who currently works at a company that imports medical supplements, met Pelé while studying business in New York, USA, in the 1980s. from Penápolis, in the interior of São Paulo.

Before Márcia, Pelé had been married twice: to Rosimeri Cholbi and to gospel singer Assíria Nascimento. Edinho, 52 years old, Jennifer, 43, and Kely, 54, are the children that Pelé had with Rosemeri. The twins Celeste and Joshua, 26 years old, are the result of his relationship with Assíria. Sandra, who died of cancer in 2006, was the result of a quick relationship that the King had with Anísia Machado, in 1966. The recognition of paternity came years later through a DNA test. Flávia Cristina is the daughter of Lenita Kurtz, who had a relationship with Pelé in 1969.
