Paulo Turra takes charge of Vitória de Guimarães

Paulo Turra began this Tuesday his journey in charge of Vitória de Guimarães, in the Portuguese Championship. The former coach of Santos, 49 years old, signed for two seasons and hopes to erase the bad impression left at the São Paulo club, in which he left after a poor record of 28.5%, to help the team where he was a player to stand out in the country. The good work with young people helped in choosing the coach.

Turra’s debut at the new club will be on Sunday, against Vizela, at Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques. The Brazilian arrived at the new home with his entire team, formed by Adir Kist, Felipe Endres, Cyro Bueno, Rui Cunha, Douglas Jesus and Nuno Madureira. He received high praise from President António Miguel Cardoso.

“He was a Vitória SC player and knows the club well. He had a very interesting career as an athlete and already has a vast curriculum as a coach and assistant, having worked with mister (Luiz) Felipe Scolari. He is used to pressure and that pressure involves everyone. those who work at Vitória SC. Paulo Turra is a professional with convictions, strong and will help a lot in terms of leadership”, said the manager with conviction.

The president also stressed what he expects from Turra in his work with the youth teams at Vitória de Guimarães. “A professional who is very identified with the areas of physiology and the development of young players”, said António Miguel Cardoso, recalling his work at the athletic.

“He spent many years at this Brazilian club, first as assistant to Mister Scolari, then on his own, and he knows these aspects well. As he is not afraid to take risks, we understand that he is the ideal person for the Vitória SC project”, he explained. “He is passionate about the club and we are convinced that it is a great bet and that things will go well. We are going to have an ever stronger Vitória.”

The coach followed the president’s line of reasoning and made a point of stressing that he likes to take advantage of young club values. “I really like working with young players. They are hungry for football, very eager and want to grow. With me, young people from Vitória will always have opportunities as long as they deserve them”, he guaranteed.

Turra’s expectation is for success, repeating the good work done in Curitiba and erasing his passage through Santos, with only one victory in seven games, in addition to three draws and three defeats. “I hope to be very successful, making Vitória occupy a great place in the championship. With the support of our fans, who are unique in Portuguese football, I hope that the team has a good campaign. I believe that we will do a great job. I watched to a few games and I think the group is very good”, he said. “My objective is to enhance the quality of the players.”
