Paulo Coelho did not receive an invitation to Lula’s inauguration – 03/27/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

President Lula (PT) did not invite Paulo Coelho to his inauguration in Brasília, on January 1st.

The party was personally organized by the first lady, Rosângela da Silva, Janja. The forgetfulness was seen as a slight by friends of the writer and would explain, in part, Coelho’s feeling of disappointment with the PT candidate.

The writer has already complained to interlocutors about the ingratitude of the President of the Republic and people close to him, who in times of difficulty sought his support —never denied.

Coelho supported Lula in the most difficult moments he faced in the past decade, when the PT reaped legal defeats that ended up taking the party out of power.

At the time of the monthly allowance trial, for example, he received former minister José Dirceu at his home in the south of France. The two spent New Year’s Eve together.

Dirceu was then demonized by sectors of the middle class. But the writer not only welcomed him but also allowed himself to be photographed with him, giving wide publicity to the meeting.

Coelho also supported Lula in different elections and even recorded statements for the PT’s TV programs. According to him, the demonstrations of support led him to lose readers, but the writer remained firm in his position.

The PT government acts would also be frustrating the writer – who then decided to make his criticisms public. On Sunday (26), Coelho criticized the current president through his social networks.

“Decades supporting Lula, I notice that his new mandate is pathetic”, he wrote, before citing Lula’s recent clashes with Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) and with the Central Bank. “I shouldn’t have committed myself to the campaign. I lost readers (it’s part of it), but I don’t see my vote being worth it.”

Even though he lives in Geneva, Switzerland, and is not sure if he could come to Brazil for the inauguration, the writer would like Lula to have wanted his presence.

Paulo Coelho highlighted that he supported the PT in all recent electoral disputes, whether the president asked for it or not and even in the face of the losses he would have suffered among his readers.

Despite the hurt, people close to the writer heard by the column believe that an “armistice” could be sealed between him and the President of the Republic soon.
