Rio Grande do Sul councilor Sandro Fantinel, from Caxias do Sul (RS), was expelled from the Patriot party earlier this Wednesday (1st) afternoon due to statements against Bahians made on Monday (27th) during a speech at the city’s City Council.

In the decision, which People’s Gazette had access, the party claims that Fantinel made “disgraceful use of the tribune in the exercise of his mandate” for a “serious disrespect for principles and rights constitutionally guaranteed to human dignity, equality, decorum, order, work, as they refer to in a vile way to human beings sadly found in a degrading situation”.

Fantinel’s speech at the City Council of Caxias was in reference to the operation of the Public Ministry of Labor that found about 200 Bahian workers in a situation analogous to slavery, last week.

The councilor suggested to the Rio Grande do Sul producers that “they no longer hire those people up there”, and that “the only culture they have is living on the beach playing drums, it was normal to have this type of problem”.

“So I want to say, oh, let it go, let it go, let this be a lesson. Leave aside those people who are used to carnival and parties, so you don’t get disturbed (sic) again”.
